Canadian PM Carney in India to Boost Trade, Reduce U.S. Dependence
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is currently on a visit to India, Australia, and Japan this week in order to diversify the Canadian economy and cut its dependence on the United States. After the trade disputes and tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, Carney now plans to double the country’s exports to other nations in the next decade. This visit is a significant diplomatic shift for Canada and India after several years of tense relations. The most prominent areas of focus for this visit are energy, AI, and the military. This shift in the Canadian economy comes after several decisions by Carney to defy U.S. trade policy, such as the removal of tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles
